Enlarge Your Home Through Orangeries

Adding extra living space through orangeries is a great way of improving a home not only does it make your house a more enjoyable space to live in but it will also make it more desirable and can add value if you decide to sell in the future.

There are many ways to add extra living space but two very popular ways is to add a conservatory or an orangery.

Conservatories and orangeries tend to be far cheaper than traditional brick built extensions and they also have a unique light and airy feel like no other room in your home. If you decide to add a conservatory or orangery to your home there are some important considerations you need to make before you make a purchase.

The first thing to consider is your budget. Sit down and work out carefully what you can afford. It is also worth factoring in a contingency fund of approximately ten percent for unforeseen circumstances. It is highly unlikely that you will need to use this but it is better to be fully prepared.

The next thing to do is to check with the planning office at your local council to enquire if you will need planning permission. Not all conservatories require planning permission but if you do it can slow the process down so it is better to get in early.

Think about what size of conservatory or orangery you would like. Often you will be limited by the space available but it can be helpful to mark out the extension on the ground so you can visualise how big it will be and if it will be big enough space for what you need.

Next you need to consider the style of the conservatory or orangery. There are many styles to choose from ranging from contemporary to traditional. You will need to ensure that whatever style you opt for that it will compliment your existing house.

When thinking about the style of the conservatory or orangery think about how you intend on using it and if there are any extras which could make it a more enjoyable place for you to live. For example adding French doors will help to link your home and garden and can be great for entertaining.

It is also worth getting a few quotes from different companies and the cheapest is not always the best. They should be able to show you examples of previous work and asking round friends and family about their experiences can be really useful.

By following these steps, taking your time and doing your research you can ensure that your new conservatories or orangeries will be a great success and provide you with pleasure for many years to come.
